Volunteers

A person is expected to serve at least one shift on any day that they are signed up as a volunteer. A shift is defined as being four and half (4.5) hours. This need not be served consecutively, but may be necessary depending on the job and the time of the day. Speak with your Coordinator about your shift if a conflict arises, preferably before said problem arises.

Levels of Volunteering at StrowlerCon 2010:

Any time volunteered at StrowlerCon 2010 is greatly appreciated; without your efforts, the convention couldn’t happen. As a way of thanking you, StrowlerCon is offering benefits based on the number of hours that you put in. These are separated by Tiers and are as follows:

Tier 0: This describes those people that help out before the event but can’t make it to the actual event.

  • Your hard work will earn you:
    • Our eternal gratitude
    • Priority consideration for volunteer positions at future events
    • Undetermined perks

Tier 1: Less than 8 hours worked

  • Your hard work will earn you:
    • Our eternal gratitude
    • Priority consideration for volunteer positions at future events
    • Access to the Hospitality Room for your fill of refreshments on the days that you volunteer.

Tier 2: Between 8-12 hours

  • Half of your admission will be refunded when your hours are completed.  You must prepay for the event, because this guarantees you a seat at the concerts. Concert seating cannot exceed fire codes, else city officials get unhappy and things get shut down.
  • Your hard work will earn you:
    • Our eternal gratitude
    • Priority consideration for volunteer positions at future events
    • An invite to the Volunteer Afterparty
    • An invitation to the 10/10/10 VIP party
    • Access to the Hospitality Room for refreshments on the days that you volunteer.

Tier 3: Between 13-26 hours

  • All of your admission will be refunded when your hours are completed.  You must prepay for the event, because this guarantees you a seat at the concerts. Concert seating cannot exceed fire codes, else city officials get unhappy and things get shut down.
  • If your hours are completed before the event, then your admission is complimentary.
  • Your hard work will earn you:
    • Our eternal gratitude
    • Priority consideration for volunteer positions at future events
    • An invite to the Volunteer Afterparty
    • A priority invitation to the 10/10/10 VIP party

Tier 4: “Core Team”

  • Each member of this tier leads other tiers in their respective fields. These people are the dedicated ones that work really hard before and during the event.
  • There are still open positions on this team including: Registration/Merchandising Coordinator, Lodging Coordinator, and VIP Party Coordinator. If you are interested, contact thewildpirate@gmail.com for more information.

Tier Omega: Life can be hectic for a lot of people, especially in the times we live in. StrowlerCon might be the only time a person will see a performer for months (or at all for that matter). So for those who simply can’t afford a ticket, or are under an extraordinary circumstances but still don’t want to miss the fun, StrowlerCon offers Tier Omega.

  • This tier is for those who want to attend but can’t afford it.
  • If you are Tier Omega, you do not pay admission, but you must volunteer at the con in return. We will try and find an occupation that suits you, but this is not guaranteed.
  • Tier Omega volunteers must work one shift for every day that they attend as a Tier Omega volunteer. Unlike other volunteers, you won’t be cut loose during a shift so that you can attend a workshop or panel; unless that is the one thing you came to see that day. You will not necessarily have access to the Hospitality Room or the Afterparty.
  • You will not be seated for the concerts unless there are still open seats just before the show. Again, the maximum capacity of the theater must be observed, otherwise we are in violation of fire codes. This will shut the con down. This is a bad thing.
  • The specifics of Tier Omega is still being worked out. These policies can and will probably change, based upon the input of our volunteers and the needs of the event.
  • If you would like to upgrade from Tier Omega to Tier 3, contact your volunteer coordinator about opportunities to work at least 13 hours before the event.

If you feel that the only way you will see your favorite performer at StrowlerCon 2010 is as a Tier Omega, contact the Volunteer Coordinator at thewildpirate@gmail.com and explain your circumstances. Please mention which performer you are intent on seeing above all others.
